Product Designer Contract

Mid-weight Product Designer (Contract)

Day Rate: ~£300-375 per day (outside IR35).

Contract: Initial 3 months, with a strong chance of extension.

Location: Bristol, 2 days/week onsite (Tuesdays & Wednesdays).

Start Date: ASAP (ideally early August).

We're looking for a mid-weight Product Designer to join a product team working on a well-established UK consumer mobile app. This is a delivery-focused contract where you'll take ownership of a defined stream of work, helping bring new features and improvements to market while the Principal Product Designer focuses on broader team responsibilities.

You'll be joining a collaborative squad with two other Product Designers, React developers and an experienced Product Manager. There's plenty of autonomy - you'll be trusted to share solutions, validate ideas with users and drive work through to delivery.

What you'll be working on

Over the course of the contract you'll contribute to a roadmap that includes:

  • Enhancing existing mobile app features.
  • Developing personalised and location-aware experiences.
  • Improvements to authentication, account management and user settings.
  • Additional feature work as priorities evolve.

Success is measured by creating experiences that encourage repeat engagement and improve user retention.

Responsibilities

You'll own the design process from discovery through to handover, including:

  • Understanding and defining user problems before jumping into solutions.
  • Planning and running user research, selecting the right testing approach for each challenge.
  • Creating user-centred designs that balance customer needs with business goals.
  • Working closely with developers to ensure designs are practical and achievable.
  • Breaking larger initiatives into sensible MVPs while considering future iterations.

What we're looking for

We're interested in mid-weight Product Designers who are confident working independently and enjoy being hands-on throughout the design process. You'll need to have:

  • A portfolio demonstrating consumer mobile app projects.
  • Experience designing for products built with component-based systems.
  • A practical understanding of how products are built and delivered.
  • Confidence planning and conducting user testing.
  • Strong Figma skills (your own license is useful but not essential).

Bonus points

Experience using AI tools to support UX research, documentation or insight generation would be a nice addition. The team already uses tools such as Claude to help prepare research and analyse findings.
