Security Cleared Content Designer
Location: Kensington area, London (hybrid, ~2 days/week in the office).
Contract: Initial 3-month contract, potential to extend or become permanent.
Rate: ~£450/day, dependent on experience (inside IR35).
Start Date: ASAP (by the end of July).
Security Clearance: Current or very recently active SC Clearance is an essential requirement.
We're working with a well-established digital consultancy that is looking for an experienced SC Cleared Content Designer to join their growing team on an exciting public sector programme.
This is an opportunity to work on meaningful, user-centred services while also joining a business that is investing heavily in growing its content design capability. If you're looking for a contract where you can make a genuine impact (not "just" deliver content), this could be an excellent fit.
The Role
You'll be joining a multidisciplinary team, collaborating closely with service designers, UX designers, user researchers and client stakeholders to create clear, accessible and user-focused content for complex digital services.
This role goes beyond content writing. You'll be responsible for applying content design principles, shaping content strategies and ensuring content supports user needs, while meeting government and accessibility standards.
You'll also have the opportunity to contribute to a wider range of commercial and corporate projects, bringing creativity where appropriate alongside structured content design.
We're looking for someone who has:
- Current (or very recently active) SC Clearance.
- Proven experience as a Content Designer within complex digital services.
- Experience working in government, public sector or similarly regulated environments.
- Strong understanding of content design methodologies and user-centred design principles.
- Experience working alongside service designers, UX designers and user researchers.
- Knowledge of content governance, sign-off processes, tone of voice and content operations.
- Confidence working directly with clients and stakeholders.
- A pragmatic approach and the ability to adapt across both public sector and commercial projects.
- Leadership experience, or the right attitude & approach to lead & grow out the content design specialty.
- An interest in contract-to-perm (though not guaranteed).
Why this contract?
Unlike many government content design contracts, this opportunity offers genuine variety. You'll initially support a high-profile public sector programme while joining a consultancy that's actively building its Content Design capability alongside established Service Design, UX & User Research practices.
For the right person, this role offers the opportunity to help shape an emerging Content Design function within a growing multidisciplinary design team. As the capability expands, there may also be longer-term opportunities to influence its direction and support its future growth.
What's on offer?
- ~£450/day (depending on experience) Inside IR35.
- Hybrid working (2 days/week in the Kensington area of London).
- Opportunity to work on high-profile public sector programmes.
- Chance to influence and help build an expanding Content Design capability.
- Collaborative multidisciplinary design team.
- Potential longer-term and permanent opportunities.
- Varied work across public sector & commercial clients.
- A supportive & friendly work environment.
If you're an SC Cleared Content Designer looking for your next contract and want something with greater variety & long-term potential, I'd love to hear from you!
