QA Automation Engineer

R13 Recruitment are partnering with an innovative and growing technology business in their search for a QA Automation Engineer to join their highly collaborative engineering team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a quality-focused testing professional to take ownership of the QA function, driving automation strategy whilst maintaining a strong focus on exploratory and risk-based manual testing. Working closely with senior technical stakeholders, you will play a key role in ensuring software quality, shaping testing processes and helping the business leverage emerging AI technologies to support an evolving development environment.

Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:30pm working one day week from Norwich-based offices and four from home. Salary is offered at £40,000 - £48,000 DOE.

The Day to Day

  • Owning and developing the organisation's automated testing strategy.
  • Designing, building and maintaining automated test coverage across regression, integration and end-to-end testing layers.
  • Creating and maintaining automated monitoring solutions to identify issues before they impact customers.
  • Carrying out exploratory and risk-based manual testing across software products.
  • Developing and executing comprehensive test plans for new features and releases.
  • Leading release quality sign-off activities and assessing associated risks.
  • Working closely with developers to identify edge cases and potential failure points early in the development lifecycle.
  • Researching, implementing and optimising AI-powered quality assurance tools and processes.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across testing methodologies and QA practices.
  • Supporting the development of quality standards, governance processes and testing frameworks.
  • Monitoring quality metrics and identifying opportunities to improve automation coverage and efficiency.
  • Collaborating across technical teams to embed quality throughout the software development lifecycle.

You Will Have / Be

  • Proven experience building and maintaining automated testing frameworks.
  • Strong experience with Playwright or similar automation technologies.
  • Solid manual and exploratory testing experience.
  • Previous experience working within Agile software development environments.
  • Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, quality assurance principles and best practice.
  • Experience working closely with software development teams.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as C#, JavaScript or Python.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to quality improvement.
  • Ability to balance automation, manual testing and risk-based decision making.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A genuine interest in emerging technologies and the role AI can play within software quality.
  • Experience with API, contract or integration testing (desirable).
  • Exposure to CI/CD environments such as GitHub Actions (desirable).
  • Experience using AI-assisted testing or quality assurance tools (desirable).
  • Experience within regulated or professional services environments (desirable).
  • Knowledge of performance or security testing (desirable).
  • ISTQB or equivalent testing certification (desirable).
