Location: Birmingham (preferred) | London or Salford with travel to Birmingham
Contract: 6 months
Hybrid: 1-2 days per week onsite
Hours: Monday-Friday, 35 hours

The Role
We're looking for an experienced SAP Principal Systems Engineer to lead on the planning, design, integration, testing and delivery of critical SAP HR systems. You'll play a key role in a significant HR transformation programme, working closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure seamless technical delivery.
This is a senior, hands-on engineering role ideal for someone who thrives in complex environments, enjoys stakeholder engagement, and brings deep SAP expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering life cycle across planning, design, development, integration, commissioning and testing of enterprise SAP systems.
- Take a senior role in HR change management initiatives, ensuring solutions meet business needs and architectural standards.
- Provide expert technical consultancy across multiple projects, shaping solutions and supporting decision-making.
- Drive improvements across systems and processes, contributing to long-term technical roadmaps.
- Oversee SIT and UAT activities from a principal engineering perspective.
- Manage relationships with suppliers and partners, including large-scale delivery partners.
- Produce, review and approve technical documentation.
- Support the introduction of emerging technologies and lead cross-functional technical teams.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, providing technical direction and leadership.
Essential Experience
- Proven background as a Principal Systems Engineer within large, complex environments.
- Strong experience working on HR transformation/change programmes.
- Extensive hands-on expertise with SAP Fiori, SAP HCM and ECC.
- Deep knowledge of systems engineering, testing, monitoring and operational handover.
- Excellent stakeholder and supplier management skills.
- Experience leading cross-departmental engineering teams.
- Ability to translate business and user requirements into robust technical solutions.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
