Benefit from a culture that encourages continuous learning, professional development, and knowledge sharing-empowering you to grow your technical expertise in SQL, VBA, PowerBI, and more.
What you'll do:
As a Reserving Systems Analyst at Aspen in London, you will immerse yourself in managing complex actuarial datasets that underpin vital business decisions. Your day-to-day activities will involve processing large volumes of claims and premium data into robust SQL databases while ensuring every step meets rigorous governance standards. You will collaborate closely with actuaries and other stakeholders across departments to answer queries swiftly and accurately-particularly during high-pressure quarterly reserving periods.
- Own the monthly processing of claims and premiums data into the Reserving SQL database for all lines of business as part of the quarterly reserving exercise, ensuring accuracy through thorough reconciliation processes.
- Satisfy internal and external auditors by maintaining strict adherence to governance requirements for the Reserving database, models, and processes.
- Design and implement solutions to automate manual processes within the reserving function, continually seeking ways to improve performance of existing automated workflows.
- Develop a deep understanding of relevant data sources and systems used by the Actuarial team to efficiently fulfil internal and external data requests across Aspen.
- Become an expert in key procedures, tables, and objects within the SQL database used during quarterly reserving exercises, identifying how code generates final datasets.
- Act as a key point of contact for the Reserving Team by responding promptly to queries-especially during critical quarterly cycles-and providing clear explanations of results.
- Contribute to developing additional analytical capabilities and reporting tools for use within the Actuarial team and wider organisation, leveraging data visualisation techniques to create actionable insights.
- Assist in designing improvements to reserving systems so they align with evolving business requirements while meeting agreed timelines.
- Perform user acceptance testing (UAT) on code changes as part of Aspen's change control process under guidance from senior colleagues.
- Maintain regular contact with stakeholders to ensure models operate efficiently while helping foster a service-oriented culture within the Actuarial Data team.
What you bring:
To excel as a Reserving Systems Analyst at Aspen, your background should include hands-on experience working with SQL databases-ideally within an insurance or financial services context-where you have demonstrated strong problem-solving abilities. Your comfort with VBA programming will allow you to automate repetitive tasks efficiently while maintaining high standards of accuracy.
- A basic understanding of computer hardware/software systems supports troubleshooting efforts when issues arise within reserving models or databases.
- Familiarity with London Market Insurance practices or commercial lines insurance terminology helps contextualise your work within Aspen's broader business objectives.
- Advanced user skills in Microsoft Excel allow you to manipulate large datasets efficiently while producing accurate analyses for stakeholders.
- Ability to create reports using Microsoft PowerBI or SQL Server Reporting Services demonstrates your capability with modern data visualisation tools.
- Strong numeric and analytic abilities enable you to interpret complex datasets accurately while maintaining attention to detail throughout all processes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills ensure you can explain technical solutions clearly-even to audiences without IT backgrounds-and document changes thoroughly for peer review.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively within teams across different geographies fosters positive relationships with colleagues throughout Aspen's global network.
- Adaptability in fast-changing environments allows you to respond constructively when priorities shift or new challenges emerge.
