Desktop Support Technician

Experience Required:

  • 1-2 years of experience in user desktop support with strong technical capabilities in this area.
  • This experience should either be within a Managed Service Provider (MSP) environment or involve full IT responsibility in a small business setting

 

Key Technical Skills:

  • Practical experience supporting Windows desktops, including building PCs and troubleshooting issues related to operating systems, drivers, and software.
  • Proficiency in supporting all versions of Microsoft Office, resolving a range of user-related issues.
  • Experience with server administration tasks, such as managing Active Directory, applying group policies, and resolving login issues, including those related to remote access.
  • Administration of Microsoft 365 services (Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive), including handling mailbox limits, shared mailboxes, and file/folder permissions.
  • Support for mobile email, including setup and sync troubleshooting for mailboxes on smartphones.
  • Ability to work independently, with a strong eye for detail and documentation. Must understand how to appropriately engage with users at varying levels of seniority and effectively prioritize tasks.
  • Strong communication skills in both spoken and written English are essential for helpdesk phone support and customer-facing communication.

Desirable Skills (Nice to Have):

  • Basic scripting abilities, particularly with PowerShell or batch files.
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting firewalls, ADSL routers, and VPN clients.
  • Completion of at least one Microsoft certification exam.
  • Familiarity with Apple Mac systems.
  • Knowledge of virtualization platforms such as Hyper-V or VMware.
  • Experience in building and setting up Windows Servers.
