Rate: 520 - 550 a day (Inside IR35)

Location: Southampton

Working Pattern: 3 days a week on-site, 2 days remote

Duration: 3 Months

Clearance: BPSS, SC would be preferred but not essential

A leading defence technology consultancy are seeking a Business Analyst with deep experience in product and innovation analysis. The role requires strong understanding of their product and technology portfolio, as well as broader market offerings, to provide structured gap analysis and data-driven insight that informs strategic direction, investment priorities, and future product development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a detailed understanding of current product, technology, and capability portfolio.
  • Map, analyse, and compare our offerings against market competitors, emerging technologies, and customer requirements.
  • Conduct gap analysis to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and areas for investment or rationalisation.
  • Work closely with Product Managers, Engineering teams, and the Innovation team to validate findings and shape recommendations.
  • Support the transformation programme with clear business problem definitions, requirements gathering, and options analysis.
  • Facilitate workshops, interviews, and structured discovery activities across business and technical teams.
  • Present insights through models, reports, and dashboards to senior stakeholders.
  • Work as a self-starter, driving analysis and decision-support activities with minimal supervision.

Experience & Skills Required

  • Proven experience as a Business Analyst working on technology, product, or innovation-related transformation projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse product portfolios, technology roadmaps, and market offerings.
  • Experience working within software, digital, or technology-led organisations.
  • Strong analytical skills, including ability to build structured Excel models; Power BI skills preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to elicit information from diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in the defence and national security ecosystem is advantageous.
  • Highly self-motivated and capable of working independently.
