Role Overview

This organisation is a growing engineering and infrastructure provider operating across EV charging, renewables, and smart energy systems in the UK. It delivers end-to-end solutions covering the design, build, operation, and maintenance of critical energy infrastructure, supporting the transition to a low-carbon future.

Due to continued growth, they are seeking a Network Engineer to take ownership of the EV Charging Point Management System (CPMS) and wider EV infrastructure estate. This is a key role within a scaling business, offering autonomy to shape systems, processes, and future team capability.

The role is primarily back-office and remote-first, focused on system optimisation, intelligent fault diagnosis, automation, and maintaining high levels of uptime across a multi-vendor charging network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take full ownership of the CPMS platform and associated EV charging infrastructure
  • Monitor, manage, and optimise network performance to ensure maximum uptime and reliability
  • Diagnose and resolve the majority of faults remotely through CPMS, automation, and system intelligence
  • Act as the technical escalation point for complex network and platform issues
  • Design, build, and maintain APIs and system integrations between platforms
  • Support and guide field engineers during reactive call-outs, providing root cause analysis
  • Work directly with OEM partners to manage interoperability, firmware, configuration, and integrations
  • Analyse charger and network performance data to proactively prevent faults
  • Support onboarding of new charging sites and clients into the CPMS environment
  • Develop, document, and continuously improve operational processes and workflows
  • Maintain strong communication with internal teams, partners, and stakeholders
  • Contribute to future team structure, training, and capability development as the estate grows

Key Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience as a Network Engineer, Systems Engineer, Platform Engineer, or similar
  • Proven experience managing and supporting cloud-based or IoT-connected platforms
  • Strong background in remote fault diagnosis and resolution
  • Confident working with networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, VPNs, firewalls, routing, switching
  • Experience working in service-critical, operational environments with uptime responsibility
  • Experience designing, building, or maintaining APIs or system integrations
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Degree in Network Engineering, Computer Science, IT, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • ITIL Foundation or service management awareness (beneficial)
  • Comfortable working autonomously and making technical decisions
  • Valid UK driving licence
  • Flexible and pragmatic approach to working hours when required

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working directly with OEMs or hardware manufacturers
  • Experience managing firmware, configuration, or interoperability across multiple vendors
  • Experience with CPMS platforms, OCPP, OCPI, or similar protocols
  • Background in EV charging, energy, utilities, grid, or smart infrastructure
  • Experience with automation, scripting, or platform optimisation

Ideal Background

  • Network Engineer / Infrastructure Engineer / Systems Engineer
  • Experience within EV charging, renewables, utilities, telecoms, or IoT environments
  • Thrives in a scaling, operational, and fast-paced organisation
  • Proactive, ownership-driven, and naturally focused on continuous improvement
