Technical Business Analyst

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Technical Business Analyst for Payments to work for our client within the technology sector. This is initially a 6-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role based in London.

Our client is seeking an experienced Technical Business Analysts to join their rapidly expanding Payments Transformation Team within the UK banking sector. This is an exciting opportunity for professionals with a strong track record in payments and financial services to play a key role in shaping and delivering strategic transformation initiatives.

Ideal candidates will bring a deep understanding of UK payments ecosystems, possess a consultative mindset, and be comfortable operating at senior consultant or manager level. You will work closely with cross-functional teams and high-level stakeholders, supporting large-scale transformation programmes focused on modernising legacy systems and enhancing digital payment capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to elicit, document, and validate requirements across complex payments and banking platforms
  • Translate business objectives and user needs into comprehensive technical specifications and user stories
  • Provide analytical support to solution architects and development teams throughout the delivery lifecycle
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of modernised payments solutions, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and industry standards
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to stakeholders, effectively managing expectations and providing insights to guide decision-making
  • Support project governance, risk management, issue resolution, and delivery assurance activities
  • Participate in stakeholder workshops, design sessions, and testing phases, ensuring high-quality and timely deliverables

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years proven experience as a Technical Business Analyst within the UK banking and payments sector
  • Strong understanding of payment platforms, schemes, and systems (e.g. Faster Payments, BACS, CHAPS, SEPA)
  • Hands-on experience in payments transformation or modernisation initiatives
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively interface between business users and technical teams
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and documentation capabilities
  • Familiarity with card schemes (e.g. Amex, Visa, Mastercard) is highly desirable
  • Experience with Agile delivery methodologies, including writing user stories and working in cross-functional squads
