Overview
We are seeking a highly commercial, data-driven Chief Financial Officer to join a private-equity-backed SaaS business experiencing strong organic growth and accelerating through a strategic M&A programme. With ARR under £20m and EBITDA margins of ~30%, the company is entering a critical phase of scaling operations, institutionalising processes, and preparing for a future value-creation event. The CFO will be a key strategic partner to the CEO and Board, driving financial excellence, operational rigour, and the analytical insight required to support informed decision-making and maximise enterprise value.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a strategic business partner to the CEO and PE sponsor, contributing to long-term growth planning and value-creation initiatives.
- Support PE objectives and prepare the organisation for future exit (trade sale, secondary, or IPO).
- Lead all financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes with a high level of accuracy and analytical depth.
- Build and manage a robust financial control environment suitable for a scaling SaaS business.
- Develop dashboards and KPI frameworks around SaaS metrics (LTV/CAC, churn, net retention, gross margin, sales efficiency, cohort analysis, etc.).
- Provide commercial insight on pricing, packaging, customer profitability, and ROI on growth initiatives.
- Drive operational finance improvements across billing, revenue recognition, data integrity, and cash management.
- Strengthen cross-functional processes across Sales, Customer Success, Marketing, and Product through data-driven decision-support.
- Lead financial due diligence, valuation, and integration efforts for bolt-on acquisitions.
- Build scalable post-merger financial systems and reporting infrastructure.
- Own financial workstreams required for exit readiness, including data-room preparation, KPI consistency, equity story development, and performance analytics.
- Ensure reporting and metrics are investor-grade and audit-ready.
- Develop a high-performing finance team, building capability ahead of company scale.
- Implement scalable systems, processes, and automation across finance and data.
- Cultivate a culture of accountability, commercial thinking, and operational excellence.
Key requirements
- Proven CFO or senior finance leader experience within a SaaS or recurring-revenue technology business.
- Strong command of core SaaS metrics, revenue recognition principles, and subscription business levers.
- Private equity experience, with a demonstrable track record of exit preparation and execution.
- Experience managing M&A, including modelling, diligence, and post-deal integration.
- Data-driven decision-maker with advanced financial modelling and analytics capability.
- Commercially minded leader able to influence strategy and support cross-functional teams.
- Experience in sub-£50m ARR, high-growth B2B SaaS environments.
- Prior responsibility for overseeing FP&A, RevOps, or data/BI functions.
- Clear communicator with strong presence at Board and investor level.
- Hands-on and adaptable; comfortable operating in a scaling environment with evolving processes.
- Collaborative, transparent, and trusted leader.
