As a Data Quality and Protocols Officer, you will ensure that the organisation's data assets are accurate, consistent, and fit for purpose. You'll implement and maintain data protocols, standards, and governance practices, supporting compliance and enabling informed decision-making across teams. Acting as a bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders, you'll embed a strong data quality culture and enforce best practices.
Key responsibilities include:
- Defining and maintaining data quality rules, validations, and checks.
- Monitoring data quality metrics and producing dashboards/reports.
- Performing data cleansing, deduplication, and validation routines.
- Developing and documenting data protocols, standards, and policies.
- Governing data dictionaries, glossaries, and metadata catalogues.
- Supporting compliance with GDPR and other data protection regulations.
- Advising staff on data quality issues and delivering training to build data literacy.
- Collaborating with IT, legal, and compliance teams to align protocols with security and privacy requirements.
- Supporting audits, risk assessments, and system improvements to enhance data integrity.
What you'll need to succeed Essential qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Statistics, or a related discipline.
- Experience in data quality methods (validation, profiling, cleansing) in medium/large-scale environments.
- Hands-on experience with relational databases, ETL processes, and CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, Dynamics).
- Strong skills in data extraction, transformation, and reporting (Excel, SQL, BI tools).
- Understanding of GDPR, UK data protection laws, and compliance requirements.
- Ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Desirable:
- Certifications in data governance or data quality (e.g., CDMP, DAMA).
- Experience with data quality/profiling tools (e.g., Talend, Collibra, Informatica).
- Familiarity with automation, alerts, and exception-handling systems.
- Experience in training staff on data practices and improving business processes.
Skills and competencies:
- Strong understanding of data management principles, governance, and lifecycle.
- Excellent communication skills to explain technical issues clearly.
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to prioritise multiple demands and deadlines.
