MI5 keeps the country safe from serious threats like terrorism and attempts by states toharm the UK, its people and way of life. We carry out investigations by obtaining, analysing,and assessing intelligence, and then work with a range of partners including MI6 and GCHQto disrupt these threats. The role

Our business analyst roles are aligned and assessed against the Government Digital andData Profession Capability framework (DDPCF), formerly known as Digital, Data andTechnology (DDaT) Profession Capability Framework.

You will work in areas across MI5 including Technical, Corporate and Operational deliveryareas, applying structured business analysis approaches to support our key transformationalchallenges in areas such as Cloud, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cyber to help ourorganisation continue to operate in a digital age.

You will analyse data and information relating to business goals, objectives, functions andprocesses. You will define requirements to improve processes, systems and services. Youwill conduct options analysis, assess feasibility and operational impact, quantify potential

business benefits and contribute to business case development. You will ensure solutionsalign with the vision, objectives, business and user needs and provide the expected benefitsand outcomes. You'll work to enable all or part of the business to make informed, strategicand tactical decisions.About You

You'll already have some training in either business analysis or change management. Youmight currently be working towards one of the recognised BA certifications such as theBritish Computer Society (BCS) or International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA)qualifications.

As someone with experience applying structured methodologies to intricate businessproblems, you'll be confident identifying the right techniques to deliver practical solutions.You'll also have experience using frameworks and tools to develop business models ofvarying complexity across multiple teams. You'll know how to select the correct tools andmethods for the environment and will provide results that benefit both the business andusers.

And you'll always be looking improve, whether you're finding new business opportunities orseeking ways to develop your own skills and knowledge. You'll have a background in leadingthe analysis, design and implementation of business changes and evaluating theireffectiveness. From mapping and documenting new processes to demonstrating as-is andto-be states, you'll strive to add value to everything you do.

Importantly, you'll build and maintain productive relationships with internal and externalstakeholders. You'll take time to understand, document and prioritise their requirements, andcommunicate solutions clearly to your various audiences – ensuring people are kept in theloop throughout.

Training and development

We have a supportive and active business analyst community who are committed todeveloping your skills. We recognise this will look different for everyone so there will be lotsof tailored training, coaching, and mentoring.

We will cover the cost of professional memberships to either the BCS (British ComputerSociety) or the IIBA (International Institute of Business Analysis) and you may haveopportunities to network with other government departments.

As you develop, grow, and maintain your technical skills, you'll progress through theGovernment Digital and Data Profession Capability framework. You'll need to regularlydemonstrate and accredit your skills based on the framework.
