Platform Engineer - Site Resilience
Location - Remote (with occasional trip to Edinburgh/ Glasgow as required)
Duration - 6months (possible extensions)
Day rate - £450 (OUTSIDE ir35)
An experienced Platform Engineer is required to support and enhance a large-scale on-premise compute and storage platform, delivering resilience, performance and efficiency improvements across critical infrastructure services. This role sits within the Site Resilience domain, working as part of a collaborative, multi-functional and agile team responsible for core platform services.
Key responsibilities
- Support and enhance virtualisation and storage platforms, ensuring availability, performance and resilience
- Contribute to the planning and adoption of NVMe storage technologies
- Improve platform engineering practices for VMware vMotion and workload mobility
- Enhance and expand the Commvault backup service, ensuring full platform coverage
- Strengthen disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities
- Collaborate with product and engineering colleagues to shape the platform roadmap and backlog
- Design, plan and deploy new infrastructure solutions (e.g. NSX, vRealize, Nutanix, SAN migrations)
- Monitor platform health, capacity and performance using modern observability tools
- Maintain documentation, designs and operational procedures
- Support live incidents, DR events and out-of-hours activities where required
Essential skills & experience
- Strong experience with VMware 6/7/8 multi-site environments
- Hands-on knowledge of Cisco UCS, NSX and Fibre Channel fabrics (Brocade)
- Proven experience with disaster recovery planning and execution
- Solid understanding of data centre best practices
- Windows and RHEL operating systems
- Infrastructure as Code and automation (Ansible, PowerShell/PowerCLI, Bash, Python)
- Platform monitoring and observability, including Grafana
- Agile and DevOps ways of working
Desirable
- VMware, Nutanix or NetApp certifications
- Experience with Commvault, vRA, MetroCluster or Nutanix platforms
- Security architecture and hybrid/cloud exposure
