Platform Engineer - Site Resilience

Location - Remote (with occasional trip to Edinburgh/ Glasgow as required)

Duration - 6months (possible extensions)

Day rate - £450 (OUTSIDE ir35)

An experienced Platform Engineer is required to support and enhance a large-scale on-premise compute and storage platform, delivering resilience, performance and efficiency improvements across critical infrastructure services. This role sits within the Site Resilience domain, working as part of a collaborative, multi-functional and agile team responsible for core platform services.

Key responsibilities

  • Support and enhance virtualisation and storage platforms, ensuring availability, performance and resilience
  • Contribute to the planning and adoption of NVMe storage technologies
  • Improve platform engineering practices for VMware vMotion and workload mobility
  • Enhance and expand the Commvault backup service, ensuring full platform coverage
  • Strengthen disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities
  • Collaborate with product and engineering colleagues to shape the platform roadmap and backlog
  • Design, plan and deploy new infrastructure solutions (e.g. NSX, vRealize, Nutanix, SAN migrations)
  • Monitor platform health, capacity and performance using modern observability tools
  • Maintain documentation, designs and operational procedures
  • Support live incidents, DR events and out-of-hours activities where required

Essential skills & experience

  • Strong experience with VMware 6/7/8 multi-site environments
  • Hands-on knowledge of Cisco UCS, NSX and Fibre Channel fabrics (Brocade)
  • Proven experience with disaster recovery planning and execution
  • Solid understanding of data centre best practices
  • Windows and RHEL operating systems
  • Infrastructure as Code and automation (Ansible, PowerShell/PowerCLI, Bash, Python)
  • Platform monitoring and observability, including Grafana
  • Agile and DevOps ways of working

Desirable

  • VMware, Nutanix or NetApp certifications
  • Experience with Commvault, vRA, MetroCluster or Nutanix platforms
  • Security architecture and hybrid/cloud exposure
