The OpportunityWe're looking for an experienced HESA Student Data Specialist to provide expert support through a critical reporting period. This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role for someone who knows the HESA Student return inside out and can confidently operate with minimal supervision.The engagement is fully remote, inside IR35, and offers flexibility around 0.6 FTE, making it well suited to an independent specialist balancing multiple commitments.
What You'll Be Doing- Owning and supporting the delivery of the HESA Student return (Data Futures)
- Interpreting and applying HESA Student data definitions, coding manuals, and validation rules
- Investigating and resolving validation errors and data quality issues
- Working closely with Student Records, Planning, and Registry teams to ensure accurate submissions
- Supporting reconciliation activities and sign-off processes
- Advising on best practice for Student data quality, governance, and controls
- Providing clear, pragmatic guidance to internal stakeholders
- Supporting any resubmissions or post-submission queries where required
- Significant, recent experience delivering HESA Student returns in a UK HE context
- Strong working knowledge of HESA Data Futures (Student collection)
- Confidence working independently in a remote, contract environment
- Ability to quickly understand institutional data structures and systems
- Excellent communication skills - able to explain complex data issues clearly and calmly
