Mid-Level Shopify Developer Growth Path to App Development

Role Summary Outserve is seeking a Mid-Level Shopify Developer with strong experience in theme development, Liquid coding, and Shopify store builds, who is motivated to grow into custom Shopify app development and deeper integrations over time.You’ll begin with store builds, theme customisations, and frontend enhancements, while gradually learning API-based development, React/Node.js, and building simple internal tools or app features under mentorship.
This role is ideal for someone who:
- Has strong Shopify front-end experience
- Wants to progress into full-stack Shopify engineering
- Enjoys solving technical problems and learning new systems
Key Responsibilities
- Shopify Theme & Site Development (Core Role)
- Build new Shopify stores and implement custom themes
- Customise existing themes using Liquid, HTML, CSS/SCSS, JavaScript
- Implement Online Store 2.0 structures, metafields, dynamic sections, and templates
- Optimise stores for speed, SEO, accessibility, and mobile performance
- Work with designers to translate Figma/Sketch into high-quality storefronts
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot third-party Shopify apps
Support & Troubleshooting
- Investigate store issues including Liquid errors, JS conflicts, and app interactions
- Resolve layout, functionality, and UX problems
Learning & Development (Structured Growth Plan) You will be supported to gain skills in:
- Shopify Admin API and Storefront API
- GraphQL
- Node.js and React
- Shopify App Bridge & Shopify Functions
- Basic backend app architecture
- Systems integration and automation concepts
- This is learning with real project exposure, not just theory.
- App Development (Progressive Responsibility) Over time, you will:
- Build small internal tools or simple app features with guidance
- Contribute to existing private app enhancements
- Assist in debugging app issues and webhook events
- Start working toward full app ownership after 6–18 months
Required Skills & Experience Core Required Experience
- 1.5–4 years’ experience in Shopify theme development
- Strong Liquid, HTML, CSS/SCSS, and JavaScript (ES6+)
- Hands-on experience building or modifying Shopify 2.0 themes
- Understanding of metafields, dynamic sources, and template logic
- Ability to debug theme issues confidently
- Experience working with Shopify merchants or in an agency
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Familiarity with React or Vue
- Exposure to APIs or JSON-based workflows
- Understanding of Git/version control
- Experience working with ERP/WMS integrations
- Basic Node.js experience
