Senior Software and Data Engineer

Job summary

We arelooking for someoneto join our team of software and data engineers.We are building a secure, scalable platform to support health data research and healthcare delivery, bringing real benefits to patients, researchers, and the NHS: in Oxford, in the Thames Valley and Surrey region, and across the UK.

The successful candidate will work with leading data scientists, clinicians, and researchers from partner organisations in academia and industry.They will help build robust, reliable software solutions for automatic data management.They will use and develop leading-edge skills in data engineering and machine learning.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will help to design andmaintainsoftware in multiple languages, including Python, SQL, and JavaScript, using continuous integration/continuousdeliverypipelines and agilemethodology.They will address design challenges, take responsibility for the resolution of complex issues, and provideleadershipin areas where they haveparticular expertiseand experience.

They will work with software engineers and data scientists within the Oxford Big Data Institute to develop data models and services that support high-value clinical and translational research.They will work with clinical teams across the NHS to improve the quality and availability of real-world data for the development and delivery of new, data-driven healthcare innovations.

Qualifications

Essential
  • An excellent understanding of the principles and techniques of software and data engineering as evidenced by a good undergraduate degree in a relevant subject, together with a Masters' degree and/or equivalent professional experience
Desirable
  • Advanced study and/or research experience in a relevant subject

Experience

Essential
  • Experience of technical leadership and interdisciplinary collaboration in the development, delivery, and support of innovative software and data technologies.
  • Experience of managing collaborations and of taking responsibility for performance and successful delivery.
Desirable
  • Experience of data modelling in a complex domain such as healthcare or health research.
  • Experience of working with sensitive or confidential data, such as healthcare records
  • Experience of developing or integrating AI technologies for software development and data analysis.
