Senior Web Developer

Role Overview

As a Senior Developer at Paramount Digital, you’ll be responsible for leading the delivery of advanced, custom WordPress solutions from bespoke themes and plugin development to complex integrations and performance optimisation. You’ll work across a variety of client projects, setting hight,echnical standards and ensuring code quality, scalability, and maintainability.

Alongside hands-on development, you’ll play a key role in supporting and mentoring other members of the team, contributing to technical decision making and helping shape best practices.

Role Expectations

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development of bespoke WordPress solutions (themes, plugins, WooCommerce, and API integrations).
• Architect scalable, secure, and maintainable codebases across client projects.
• Take ownership of complex technical challenges, from performance optimisation to advanced integrations.
• Support project scoping and planning by providing accurate technical input and estimates.
• Mentor and guide midweight and junior developers through code reviews, paired programming, and knowledge sharing.
• Oversee delivery quality, ensuring coding standards, best practices, and deployment processes are consistently followed.
• Drive improvements in CI/CD pipelines, testing workflows, and automation.
• Ensure all projects meet high standards of responsiveness, accessibility, and performance.
• Collaborate with designers and other teams to align technical solutions with business objectives.
• Occasionally liaise with clients, providing technical insight and helping translate requirements into actionable solutions.
• Stay up to date with WordPress/PHP ecosystem trends, advising on new tools and approaches that could benefit the team.
• Contribute where possible to projects in other modern frameworks, bringing flexibility to the team.

Required Skills & Experience

• 5 + years professional web development experience, ideally in an agency or multi-project environment.
• Proven expertise in WordPress development: custom themes, plugins, WooCommerce, ACF, CPTs, and advanced integrations.
• Strong proficiency in PHP 7/8, with solid understanding of OOP, design patterns, and modern development practices.
• Strong skills in JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3, with experience building maintainable and performant front-end integrations.
• Strong database knowledge (MySQL/SQL) and experience integrating REST/GraphQL APIs.
• Advanced Git skills and experience working with branching strategies, pull requests, and code reviews.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions) and deployment workflows.
• Solid understanding of security best practices, performance optimisation, and scalability principles.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a track record of supporting and mentoring others.

Desirable Skills

• Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks such as React or Vue.js and headless-CMS architectures.
• Experience with Laravel and the TALL stack (Tailwind, Alpine.js, Livewire, Laravel) or other PHP frameworks.
• Competence with Composer and PHP package management.
• Familiarity with build tools such as Webpack and Gulp and package managers like npm and Yarn.
• Proficiency in Python for scripting, automation or backend integration.
• Experience with PHPUnit, Jest or other unit/integration testing frameworks
• Familiarity with linters (ESLint, PHPCS) and performance-monitoring tools (Lighthouse, New Relic)
• Competence with analytics and performance tools such as Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager and New Relic.
• Familiarity with AB Testing tools such as VWO
• Experience using animation libraries such as Motion and GSAP and modern CSS techniques.
