Head of IT

A growing UK-based organisation is looking to appoint an experienced Head of IT to take overall responsibility for its IT function and support the next phase of operational and digital maturity.Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the role will provide leadership across IT operations, infrastructure, service delivery, systems development, information security, automation, and data. The position combines strategic ownership with hands-on technical engagement, ensuring the organisation’s IT services are resilient, well governed, and aligned with business priorities.The role carries a high degree of autonomy and acts as the central point of ownership for IT services, delivery, and supplier relationships. It offers the opportunity to lead a well-established internal IT capability and continue evolving it into a mature, scalable function, with responsibility for standards, structure, and long-term direction.Due to the nature of the role, this will require a heavy presence on in Norwich, just off the A47.Key areas of responsibility:
  • Overall ownership of IT services, infrastructure, and 24/7 support operations
  • Setting and delivering the IT strategy, roadmap, and governance framework
  • Ensuring the security, resilience, and availability of systems and data
  • Leading and developing a senior, multi-disciplinary internal IT team
  • Overseeing systems development, testing, automation, and controlled change
  • Managing third-party suppliers, MSPs, and strategic partners
  • Ownership of IT budget, forecasting, and cost control
  • Providing trusted technology advice to senior stakeholders
Background and experience:
  • Proven experience in a senior IT leadership role (Head of IT, IT Manager, or equivalent)
  • Strong background in IT operations, infrastructure, and service delivery
  • Experience operating within Microsoft enterprise environments (M365, Azure, identity and security)
  • Track record of leading senior technical specialists and delivering through others
  • Experience improving operational maturity, resilience, and governance
  • Knowledge of IT service management and security frameworks (e.g. ITIL, Cyber Essentials Plus, ISO 27001)
  • Comfortable remaining hands-on in complex or high-impact situations
  • Strong stakeholder communication skills, with the ability to translate technical risk into business terms
