Location: Uxbridge (with occasional travel to additional sites)Team: Infrastructure & Network Operations Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week Reports to: Infrastructure Manager
About the Role
We’re seeking a skilled Infrastructure Engineer to join our client's Infrastructure & Network Operations team.
A key part of the position involves overseeing and coordinating the technical delivery of high-volume assessments. This includes maintaining secure, stable, and compliant IT environments during exam or assessment periods. You’ll work closely with internal teams to ensure systems are configured correctly, data is protected, and environments meet strict technical requirements.
Alongside this, you’ll play a major role in broader infrastructure operations—acting as a 3rd-line escalation point, supporting on-premise and cloud technologies, contributing to small projects, and driving continuous service improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Support
- Act as a 3rd-line escalation point for technical incidents and service desk tickets.
- Support core infrastructure systems including servers, networks, Wi-Fi, and firewalls.
- Assist in maintaining Cyber Essentials Plus compliance.
- Deliver preventative maintenance and patch management.
- Maintain accurate documentation of infrastructure systems and configurations.
Operational Monitoring
- Monitor on-premises and cloud infrastructure (including Azure and Microsoft 365).
- Investigate alerts and incidents; support routine operations such as backups and updates.
- Administer systems securely in line with internal policies and Cyber Essentials Plus.
- Produce monthly reports on key technical systems and performance metrics.
Assessment IT Coordination
- Coordinate the technical setup and delivery of large volumes of digital assessments.
- Create and manage user accounts to support controlled testing environments.
- Implement secure configurations using Group Policies and system restrictions.
- Upload assessment files, configure access, and enforce authorised application use.
- Archive and secure assessment-related data in accordance with policy.
- Work closely with internal teams to ensure accurate and timely setup.
Software & Application Management
- Oversee the software catalogue, tracking usage and licensing.
- Gather technical requirements and coordinate software deployments.
- Support application packaging and deployment via SCCM and/or Intune.
- Ensure applications are tested, documented, and delivered to deadlines.
Project & Service Improvement
- Lead small-scale projects and service improvements from planning to delivery.
- Contribute to infrastructure change processes, including testing and documentation.
- Support change control activities such as impact assessments and rollback plans.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- Proven experience delivering accurate, high-quality technical work.
- Strong understanding of Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, and PowerShell.
- Background in supporting infrastructure components such as servers, networks, Wi-Fi, and virtualisation.
- Proficiency with SCCM and/or Intune for software deployment.
- Experience providing or supporting 3rd-line technical escalations.
Desirable
- Experience with Microsoft 365, Hyper-V, and Cisco Meraki.
- Knowledge of Azure services, Entra ID, and hybrid identity environments.
- Familiarity with ITIL change/incident management frameworks.
