Data Architect (Data Modelling Focus) - Inside IR35 - Up to £650 per day

Data Architect (Data Modelling Focus)

Multiple Public Sector Clients | Inside IR35 | London/Coventry | Up to £650 per day

We are seeking experienced Data Architects with a strong background in data modelling, governance, and enterprise data architecture to support major public sector programmes.

These roles focus on providing data architecture leadership across complex, multi-supplier environments. You will work across multiple projects, defining and assuring data models, data flows, governance frameworks, and data standards for both new and existing services. You will often be asked to provide data assurance, resolve issues with existing implementations, and guide teams towards robust, scalable, and compliant data designs.

Programmes typically involve bespoke digital services, integration with Legacy platforms, and cloud-native data platforms. A core part of the role is establishing clear, well-governed, auditable data structures that enable analytics, reporting, and operational services to function reliably at scale.

You will shape the overall data architecture, defining modelling standards, patterns, principles, and governance approaches that multiple teams and suppliers can adopt consistently.

The Role

You will:

  • Lead the design of relational and dimensional data models for complex services

  • Define and enforce data modelling standards using tools such as Erwin

  • Establish robust data governance frameworks aligned to DAMA-DMBOK

  • Ensure strong data lineage, auditability, and traceability across all data transformations

  • Define metadata standards to create a single version of truth

  • Assure data designs produced by delivery teams and suppliers

  • Support the design of cloud-based data platforms, typically on Azure

  • Work with architects, engineers, analysts, and service teams to ensure data structures support operational and analytical needs

  • Guide programmes on master data management, data quality, and reference data approaches

  • Support compliance with security, regulatory, and organisational standards

  • Contribute to architectural principles across data, integration, and applications

  • Work within agile teams across Discovery, Alpha, Beta, and Live in line with GDS standards

About You

You are analytical, structured, and comfortable operating across complex stakeholder landscapes. You are client-focused, able to work at pace, and confident providing data leadership without close supervision. You are comfortable reviewing and correcting poor data designs and influencing teams towards better practices.

You are likely an experienced Data Architect from a consultancy, systems integrator, or enterprise environment, with a strong track record of delivering robust data platforms and models for large organisations.

You can communicate complex data concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences and produce high-quality written artefacts such as data standards, modelling guides, and architecture documentation.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Strong expertise in enterprise data architecture

  • Advanced data modelling skills, both relational and dimensional

  • Hands-on experience using Erwin for data modelling and repository management

  • Deep understanding of DAMA-DMBOK data management principles

  • Experience implementing data governance, metadata management, and lineage

  • Strong knowledge of database design and data structures

  • Experience designing data solutions for cloud platforms, ideally Azure

  • Understanding of data warehousing and analytics platforms

  • Experience assuring data designs across multi-supplier agile programmes

  • Knowledge of API and integration patterns as they relate to data exchange

  • Experience working in agile public sector programmes

  • Ability to produce clear data standards, patterns, and principles

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with Master Data Management and data quality frameworks

  • Understanding of medallion or layered data architectures for analytics

  • Experience working to GDS standards and guidance

  • Familiarity with modern data tooling such as Synapse, Databricks, or similar platforms

  • Domain Driven Design awareness

  • SC clearance highly beneficial

This role is ideal for a Data Architect who is passionate about getting the data foundations right so that services, reporting, analytics, and integrations work reliably, securely, and at scale.
