We are looking for experienced ITSM Service Designers who have a strong Service Management backgrounds and have a strong track record in providing solution design advice to clients.
The ideal Service Designer will have worked on large scale agile programmes in the public sector. The Service Designer will have to guide the overall programme architecture, producing design patterns and principles.
About you
Our ideal candidate is conscientious, client-focused and able to work to tight deadlines, sometimes at short notice. You are reliable, self-motivated and able to work without close supervision. You are technically proficient with impressive analytic and communication skills; you are comfortable with talking to clients and enjoy the variety of working on different projects. You can code if necessary, and produce high quality written outputs. You are likely to be an experienced architect, with a strong track record of application delivery and possibly with a management consultancy or solution integrator background. Any experience of enterprise-level applications and their integration with other systems would be highly desirable.
The role
Establish comprehensive service architecture across the entire project life cycle. This includes defining service models, operational agreements, and performance metrics that satisfy organisational, technical, and information security requirements. The focus is on governing delivery to ensure all solutions are scalable, resilient, and optimized for cost efficiency while remaining compliant with recognised frameworks such as ITIL.
Service Architecture Development
Produce and manage reusable design assets, including stakeholder journeys, service blueprints, and detailed specifications. This involves maintaining a library of standards, templates, and design packs to ensure consistent quality across the organisation. Additionally, you will maintain technical roadmaps to support long term portfolio alignment and life cycle management.
Leadership and Strategic Direction
Provide professional leadership to the design function within the office of the CTO, offering coaching and professional development. This role serves as a subject matter expert for Service Owners and delivery teams regarding best practices and design intent. Furthermore, you will act as a core member of the Technical Design Authority, providing formal review of proposals and influencing the strategic direction of the service estate.
Stakeholder Engagement and Consultancy
Partner with business units, architects, and delivery teams to translate complex requirements into supportable, coherent service designs. This includes providing expert consultancy to ensure services are fit for purpose and aligned with desired business outcomes. You will also manage relationships with external partners to assess technical proposals and ensure contractual compliance.
Sector Focus
The Lead Service Designer will support a portfolio of high-integrity clients within the National Security and Public Safety sectors, as well as economic regulatory bodies and central government property functions.
Location and requirements
The role is based in the Milton Keynes area, with 3-4 days in the office.
Active SC clearance required as a minimum.
