Lead Infrastructure Engineer
Lead Infrastructure Engineer (DV cleared) - £500/day via Umbrella - 6-month Contract - Farnborough (Onsite) - SCC Flex Contract
We are seeking a DV-cleared Lead Infrastructure Engineer with strong expertise in VMware and VMware Horizon to lead the delivery of desktop services within a complex multi-datacentre environment. This role will take technical ownership of VDI services, driving design, deployment, and operational excellence across Wintel and VMware platforms.
Your responsibilities as the Lead Infrastructure Engineer:
- Lead the direction and delivery of all tasks within the EUC services
- Design multi-site, multi-tenant VDI environments using VMware Horizon
- Build, deploy, configure, and maintain VMware Horizon-based EUC platforms
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, including Low-Level Designs, release notes, and DR/failover procedures
- Define build processes, create new procedures, and review/update existing documentation
- Lead VDI services deployments across the full life cycle, from development and test to production
- Ensure platforms are resilient, secure, and aligned with operational best practice
As a successful Lead Infrastructure Engineer, you will have:
- Active DV or SC clearance is required for this role
- Proven experience designing and delivering VMware Horizon VDI environments
- Strong hands-on expertise with vCenter, ESXi, Horizon View (Connection Servers & Desktop Pools)
- Experience with Unified Access Gateway, Dynamic Environment Manager, Gold Image management, and App Volumes and application management.
- Background in virtualisation hardening using CIS Benchmarks or NIST SP 800-53
- Experience working in multi-datacentre environments
- Solid understanding of VMware virtual networking
- Design and build of thin, zero, and thick clients (Windows or Linux, eg Windows 11, BeCrypt Paradox)
- Experience with Cisco networking
