Infrastructure and Security Engineer

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Infrastructure and Security Engineer to join our IT team as we transition from a hybrid environment to a fully cloud-based model. You will take ownership of supporting and enhancing our core infrastructure, leading on technical escalations, and ensuring our systems remain secure, resilient, and high-performing.
Although this is a remote-first role, occasional travel will be required to our Head Office in Nottingham and to other UK sites for on-site support.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement, configure, and support core IT infrastructure including Microsoft Azure, Windows Server, Intune, Office 365, networking, and storage technologies.
- Work closely with managed service providers (MSPs) and vendors to maintain agreed performance and security standards.
- Manage escalations from the Service Desk, delivering advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Support the planning and delivery of infrastructure and security projects, ensuring alignment with business requirements, budgets, and timelines.
- Proactively monitor system performance, capacity, and security posture, identifying areas for improvement.
- Maintain up-to-date infrastructure documentation, standards, and operating procedures.
- Participate in security and risk management activities including risk register maintenance, patch management, and vulnerability remediation.
- Collaborate with wider IT and business stakeholders to ensure smooth transitions of services into BAU support.
- Support supplier selection and tender processes as required.
- Provide out-of-hours support on a rota basis for critical incidents.
- Travel to sites for hardware support where needed.

Education / Certifications
Essential:
- Full UK Driving Licence
Desirable:
- Azure certifications
- Microsoft MCP or higher
- CompTIA A+
Experience
Essential:
- Minimum 2+ years’ experience in a hands-on IT infrastructure role
- Proven experience supporting cloud and hybrid environments (Azure, O365)
- Demonstrated ability to manage and improve infrastructure performance and security
- Experience working with third-party suppliers and MSPs
Desirable:
- Experience with endpoint management (Intune)
- Exposure to security operations or compliance frameworks
- AWS exposure
Technical Skills
Essential:
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server 2019+, Azure AD, Intune, and Office 365
- Understanding of networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, VPN, routing)
- Experience with backup and recovery solutions
- Familiarity with identity and access management, patching, and monitoring
Desirable:
- Knowledge of SIEM tools (e.g., Microsoft Sentinel)
- PowerShell scripting or automation experience
