Infrastructure /Wintel Systems Design Architect (SC Cleared)

As an Instructure/Microsoft Systems Architect you will report to the Project Technical Lead. Your responsibilities will include capturing the “As Is” state of the Data Centre technology. This requires surveying the existing technology stack from the ground up.

Be able to read and write to existing documentation The ability to reverse engineer the current CER’s and depict this in artefacts and technical drawings. Calling out UPS, AC, Rack setups, device inspection and hardware knowledge across many providers

Be able to understand and compute power usage and cooling

Understanding modern DC resilience on all aspects. Knowledge or Data Centre tiers.

Your main responsibilities as an Infrastructure Systems Engineer will involve:

  • Providing Hardware and Systems Engineering design to the business development activities including study/experimentation activities, system de-risking activities, interfacing with suppliers and interaction with prospective customers at a technical level
  • Development and implementation of technical solutions that meet the customer requirements
  • Provision of realistic estimates for specified activities to the development lead
  • Support System Integration activities
  • The safe design of the system prior to delivery and for the preparation of information required by the Design Authority to support the Design Certification and Certificate of Design activities

Your skills and qualifications as an Infrastructure Systems Engineer:

Experience of:

  • A strong Hardware and Systems Engineering background
  • A good understanding of the complete engineering lifecycle and configuration management
  • A good working knowledge of the development processes (e.g. requirements, design, specification, implementation, integration and testing, acceptance), and development tools (e.g. Requirements Management, Modelling and defect reporting systems)
  • Experience of providing engineering input and support to business development activities would be an advantage.
  • Technical Aspects Required: -
  • Wintel deep knowledge – Windows Server (All), AD, AFDS, DNS,DHCP, Domain Trusts, Exchange, SQL, Load Balancing, PowerShell, WSUS, Defender, Security
  • Site Survey/Feasibility Study
  • Rack design and layouts
  • UPS (All categories - Rack battery, Building provision, generator lifetime etc)
  • Cooling
  • Resilience (As is and To Be states – Hot /Cold Isle – floor)
  • Network Comms – Redline drawings and resilient circuits.
  • Network devices – Brands -Use/Obsolete/CV capture – Switches/HGC/HTG/IPS/IDS/Security
  • Servers – Brands/Models recognition and ability to capture S/N/Age/Obsolete
  • Storage arrays/ SAN/NAS/MSA/Other

Desirable:

  • A background in Communications (voice, data and radio products)
  • An understanding of designing equipment to meet stringent environmental requirements such as EMC, Environmental etc. (awareness of associated DEF-STANS would be desirable)
