We're working with a well-established software company that has been at the forefront of innovation in the higher education and technology sector for over 25 years. Their software is trusted by hundreds of institutions worldwide, helping universities and colleges.

They're now looking for a Cloud Operations Team Lead to take ownership of their cloud infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability while driving automation and cloud governance across the business.

This is a hands-on leadership role, combining strategic oversight with technical delivery, and offers the opportunity to make a real impact within a company that continues to grow and invest in modern, scalable cloud solutions.

The Role

As the Cloud Operations Team Leader, you'll be responsible for managing day-to-day operations within the company's cloud environment. You'll lead a small team of cloud engineers, develop and enforce cloud governance and security best practices, and support development teams through reliable CI/CD infrastructure.

Key responsibilities include:

• Overseeing daily cloud operations including monitoring, incident response, troubleshooting, and optimisation.
• Leading and managing both short and long-term project planning (Agile, sprints, iteration planning).
• Developing and implementing cloud governance, security, and compliance policies.
• Driving automation and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) improvements using Terraform and Ansible, with an AI-first approach.
• Collaborating with development teams to maintain and enhance CI/CD pipelines.
• Managing cloud costs and implementing FinOps strategies.
• Providing mentorship and professional development opportunities for cloud engineers.

What You'll Bring

• 3+ years of hands-on experience with AWS (other cloud experience also valued).
• Strong understanding of Infrastructure-as-Code and configuration management tools.
• Proven leadership experience, managing teams and cloud infrastructure projects.
• Proficiency in cloud monitoring, alerting, and performance optimisation.
• Strong grasp of cloud security, governance, and compliance best practices.
• Experience with CI/CD tools and supporting development workflows.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
• Solid knowledge of Terraform, Ansible, GitHub, and Web Application Firewalls.

Desirable Skills

Experience with some of the following would be advantageous:

• SQL Server, Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS
• Remote Desktop Services, IIS / Nginx, Linux Server
• IDS/IPS, PowerShell, Bash
• Serverless technologies (AWS Lambda, Elastic Containers)
• Agentic and Generative AI, especially when applied to Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
