Head of Data
Head of Data (Ready to Step Up?)
London / Hybrid
Full-time
This is not a role for a career Head of Data who's been there, done that.
This is for a high-potential data all-rounder who's ready to step up.
If you're the kind of person who can:
• Write SQL / Python without flinching
• Build dashboards people actually use
• Explain what's going on in the business, not just what the chart says
• Present confidently to non-technical stakeholders
• Own problems end-to-end rather than wait for instructions
...then keep reading.
The opportunity
We're looking for someone ready to own data properly for the first time.
You might currently be:
• A Senior Data Analyst / Analytics Engineer
• A Lead Analyst or "data person everyone relies on"
• A full-stack data generalist who's outgrown their current role
You may not have held the title "Head of Data" before — that's fine.
What matters is that you're already doing 70–80% of the job.
What you'll actually do
• Own the data estate end-to-end: sources → models → dashboards → insight
• Build and improve reporting, metrics, and dashboards
• Turn messy data into clear commercial insight
• Work closely with leadership to answer real business questions
• Decide what not to build, as much as what to build
• Gradually shape the data roadmap and function as the business grows
This is a hands-on role. You will be coding, building, analysing, and presenting.
What we're not looking for
• Someone who only manages and doesn't build
• Someone who needs a big team before they can add value
• Someone chasing titles rather than responsibility
What we are looking for
• Strong SQL and solid analytics fundamentals
• Comfort working across the full data lifecycle
• Commercial thinking — you care about outcomes, not just models
• Clear communication with non-technical stakeholders
• Ambition to grow into a senior leadership role
Why this role is different
• Real ownership, not just delivery tickets
• Direct exposure to senior decision-makers
• Space to grow into the role, not be boxed in by it
• A chance to shape how data is done, not inherit legacy mess
If you've ever thought:
"I'm basically already doing this — just without the title"
...this role is for you.
