Senior Data Engineer - Oxfordshire

£75,000 | Once per week in office

My client are a leading organisation in the financial services industry, they are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join their growing data team. You will play a key role in shaping and delivering data solutions, working closely with the Data Product Manager and Data Architect. This is a hands-on technical role combined with technical leadership responsibilities.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and set standards for solution delivery.
  • Collaborate with the Data Architect to design and implement data architecture.
  • Design, develop, and optimize scalable data pipelines and workflows within Databricks, leveraging Spark for data processing, implementing best practices for performance, security, and governance (Unity Catalog), and ensuring seamless integration with Azure cloud services.
  • Deliver large-scale workflows for ingestion, cleansing, transformation, and storage.
  • Optimize data processing systems for performance and reliability.
  • Implement data quality and validation processes.
  • Operate within Azure DevOps for CI/CD, version control, and deployment.
  • Develop and maintain data models, schemas, and documentation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve pipeline issues promptly.
  • Line manage and mentor a small team of Data Engineers.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience with Databricks (including Unity Catalog).
  • Proficiency in Python, Spark, and SQL.
  • Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
  • Expertise in data pipeline/workflow tools (e.g., Apache Airflow, ADF).
  • Experience with Azure and related data services.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
