Microsoft Support Engineer

Up to £38,000 + on call allowance

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver BAU support and maintenance across customer environments.
  • Contribute to service improvement initiatives alongside other engineers and Technical Leads.
  • Assist with solution development based on designs and documentation provided by Technical Leads, Architects, and Delivery Managers.
  • Actively maintain and work towards technical certifications in relevant Microsoft products.
  • Participate in the on-call rota to provide out-of-hours support.
  • Follow change control processes and ensure all work is carried out to a high standard.
  • Note: Responsibilities are not exhaustive the role holder may be asked to take on other reasonable duties as required.

Core Skills & Experience

  • Strong problem-solving ability and logical approach to troubleshooting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong customer service focus and ability to build positive working relationships.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Awareness of the commercial impact of technical decisions.
  • Previous experience in a managed service or commercial IT environment.
  • Familiarity with working under formal change control.

Technical Skills

  • Windows Server (including Active Directory Domain Services, DNS, Group Policy, DFS, DHCP)
  • Microsoft Azure (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) - AZ-900 required, AZ-104 desirable other Microsoft certifications a bonus.
  • Microsoft 365 administration.
  • PKI, Exchange, and related Microsoft infrastructure components.
  • Exposure to scripting and automation (e.g., PowerShell, Puppet, Docker, or equivalent).
  • Experience with management and operational tooling such as anti-virus, backup, disaster recovery, and monitoring solutions.
  • Bonus skills:
  • Linux administration.
  • Networking fundamentals (routing, switching, firewalls).
  • Supporting bespoke applications and customer-specific services.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code.
  • Experience with Kubernetes.
  • Experience with virtualisation platforms such as Hyper-V, VMware, or vCloud, including administration and troubleshooting.


Additional Requirements:
Successful candidates will be required to undergo NPPV3 and SC background checks as part of the role. These are completed after starting employment.
