Senior Performance Analyst

Job summary

An opportunity has arisen in the Performance Management Department for a full time Senior Performance Analyst to cover a secondment for a 12-month period. The team requires an enthusiastic team member who can demonstrate strong data analysis skills based on experiences working within an NHS Cancer data/information-based environment. You will use this comprehensive experience to develop solutions in a pressured and ever-changing working environment based on tight timescales. The role also requires experience of supervising a team and providing guidance and coaching to junior team members.

You will be an experienced user of the Microsoft Office Suite and will have excellent organisational skills and be able to communicate confidently with all levels of staff on a wide range of performance issues.

Playing an important role within the Performance Team, the post holder will be a key part in providing a professional Trust-wide performance information service.

Main duties of the job

The purpose of this role is to support the Head of Performance, & Senior Performance Lead by providing high level analysis and reporting expertise to ensure accurate and timely performance information is provided to meet internal, external and mandatory reporting requirements.

The post holder must be an expert in the collection, analysis, interpretation and presentation of information, contributing to the provision of a timely and quality Performance Management service across the Trust.

The post holder will be required to work autonomously in the creation of both standard/regular analytical reports and develop new reports as and when required in a way that is user friendly.

To work with the Head of Performance and Senior Performance Lead in order to provide expert advice and guidance to other senior members of the Trust. To help assess the impact of change within the information environment and any associated timetables for completion and delivery.

To have a broad understanding of current and future performance information issues and to be able to offer to take on duties and responsibilities of Head of Performance and other senior colleagues when necessary and appropriate.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. To assist the Head of Performance & Senior Performance Lead in providing a professional Trust-wide performance information service, fully utilising the Trusts multiple systems with the appropriate complex query methods and tools.
  2. To assist in the day-to-day supervision of the Trusts Data Quality function and work collaboratively with operational teams and the Data Insights team to develop solutions to data related issues.
  3. To be able to interpret, extract, manage and analyse highly complex datasets using spreadsheets, databases and other analysis tools.
  4. Utilise system knowledge to advance the Trust with data collection and performance reporting solutions for; local & national performance standards, referral pathways and clinical multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings. To plan change with the appropriate department heads, clinical service managers etc. To implement new processes and data solutions to meet current and anticipated requirements.
  5. To discuss complex issues with members of the team and the users of the service to implement the best solutions. To input expert advice and knowledge for the direction of the team.
  6. To assist the Head of Performance & Senior Performance Lead in the development of key performance indicators (KPIs) and other information to support service improvement at corporate, divisional and individual level.
  7. Strongly support and progress the Christie to position itself in readiness for National Cancer Standards, Cancer Waiting Times Database (CWT), the Electronic Patient Record, and provision of the National Waiting List Minimum Data Set. To work with the Heads of Performance Management, Income Team, Data Insights, Data Engineering and operational teams on the complex processes involved. To identify changes in processes and identify risks ensuring that the Trust can meet these national timetables and targets.
  8. As a senior member of the Performance Management Department, work with all clinical divisions, develop and implement systems to monitor the Trusts activity and performance throughout the year. To be an active member of the Trusts internal monitoring groups along side representatives from Data Insights, Data Engineering and Finance. To lead on all performance input, bringing expertise and knowledge to the group.
  9. Engage with clinicians and managers to assess and advise the most effective way to analyse and present data for greatest impact. To lead and guide the department on various projects as they arise.
  10. Work with Data Insights and Data Engineering teams to provide operational information to support patient management and any other functions as necessary. Having the responsibility to adapt performance information systems to meet the specification of others.
  11. To act as a leading member of the Trusts internal performance reporting groups to help in integrating the Trusts information resources at a senior level by drawing on experience and intricate knowledge of Trust data systems. To promote information governance and ensure members of the group are advised by Trust representatives on all appropriate matters.
  12. To maintain an up to date knowledge of developments of NHS Information flows, data requirements and collection methodologies employed.
  13. Actively feedback and represent the operational function of the performance and Data Quality department in all relevant Trust wide groups, also further specialised local groups as required.
  14. Responsible for day-to-day operational supervision of the junior members of the Data Quality team and provide a coaching and training role as and where appropriate as part of their personal development.
  15. Use external and internal relationships along with NHS policy to maintain an up to date knowledge of local and national developments, documentation, procedures and targets for the main areas of work within the responsibility of the post. Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential
  • Degree or equivalent in a Performance or Information Management discipline and/or extensive and comprehensive experience in an NHS Information environment
  • NVQ Level 5 or equivalent relevant experience
Desirable
  • Post graduate information management and/or relational database qualifications

Experience

Essential
  • Comprehensive experience working within an NHS Cancer data/information-based environment
  • Experience of Hospital/Patient based systems. (E.g. PAS, MOSAIQ etc.) Preferably acquired in a Cancer data/information-based environment
  • Familiarity with Cancer Network aims objectives and structure
  • Experience of supervising a team, staff development, coaching skills
