Advanced SQL Server DBA – NHS Organisation

Rate: £428 per day (Outside IR35)Contract: 3 months Location: Central London (2 days on-site per week)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Advanced Database Administrator (DBA) to join an NHS organisation on a short-term contract. You will be responsible for building and managing SQL Server databases across multiple lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems, within an Always On SQL Farm.

Key Responsibilities
  • Configure and maintain SQL Server databases, ensuring high performance, availability, and security.
  • Apply data modelling techniques to support integration and performance requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in real time, providing end-to-end problem resolution.
  • Automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.
  • Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement.
  • Provide technical mentorship and cross-training to team members.
  • Recommend solutions for database structure, security, backup, and recovery.
  • Install and configure new systems, propose specifications, and coordinate installation requirements.
  • Maintain database performance and complete maintenance requirements.
  • Create dashboards using Power BI.
  • Work with multi-terabyte, high-throughput, highly available databases.
  • Manage storage fabric (Fibre and iSCSI) and SQL failover for business continuity.
  • Support project teams during analysis and planning stages, including Change Management.
  • Write reports, instructions, and specifications.
  • Design and enforce networking standards, monitor performance, and troubleshoot network issues.
Essential Skills
  • Advanced SQL Server DBA experience in high-availability environments.
  • Expertise in Always On Availability Groups.
  • Strong knowledge of Power BI for dashboard creation.
  • Experience with storage fabric technologies (Fibre/iSCSI).
  • Business continuity and failover planning.
  • Excellent problem-solving and performance tuning skills.
  • Ability to mentor and share technical expertise.
