UX Content Designer
Content Designer (with UX capability) – GDS / Government Contract
Remote-first (UK-based)
I’m looking for a Content Designer first and foremost. If your strength is writing clear, user-centred content that cuts through complexity then this is for you. There is room to contribute to UX and screen iteration, but is a content lead role. We're working with a leading Consultancy to delivery a challenging Government project.
If you lead with UX and only “dabble” in content, you won’t be a fit.
You’ll be shaping journeys, simplifying language, fixing broken flows, and making a complex government service understandable. You must be confident, fast, and able to work under ambiguity.
What you’ll be doing
Content Design
- Writing clear, concise content for transactional journeys, application forms, UI labels, in-website guidance.
- Turning complex regulatory or technical processes into simple, accessible content that anyone can follow.
- Auditing existing content, identifying gaps, rewriting what doesn’t work and improving the end-to-end experience.
- Producing content for help docs, onboarding flows and support pages.
- Upholding GOV.UK standards, GDS content principles, and plain English across everything you touch.
- Owning tone of voice, consistency, and content quality across multiple workstreams.
What you need
- Active Security Clearance
- Strong, proven Content Design background with strong experience on Government projects.
- Ability to simplify complexity and structure content logically, clearly and accessibly.
- Experience writing across multiple touchpoints (UI, journeys, onboarding, help docs, emails, in-product messaging).
- Understanding of GDS Service Standards, GOV.UK style guide, and the GDS approach to content.
- Solid (not expert-level) Figma skills; enough to support quick screen iteration.
- Experience using or contributing to the GDS Prototyping Kit .
- Comfortable working in ambiguity, with short iteration cycles and limited research.
- Strong communicator who can explain decisions, push back calmly, and bring stakeholders along with you.
- Ability to juggle multiple workstreams without losing clarity.
Why this role suits strong content people
You’ll have real ownership of language and user understanding.
This isn’t a place for heavy theory, overly long research cycles or big design ceremonies.
It’s about clarity, action, and making complex government services usable.
