Software Application Manager

Software Application Manager

Location: South East London (on-site parking available)

Salary: £50,000 – £55,000

Working Pattern: 4 days on-site (non-negotiable) | Fridays remote

The Role

This is a senior application ownership role within a large, operationally complex organisation where software systems are business-critical .

You will be responsible for running and owning a portfolio of enterprise applications — ensuring they are stable, secure, fit for purpose, and aligned with how the business actually operates.

This is not a development role and not a delivery/project management role.

It’s a role for someone who wants clear accountability , authority, and long-term ownership of applications that matter.

Overall Responsibility (Plain English)

You are the key holder for applications .

If an application:

  • isn’t working properly
  • isn’t fit for purpose
  • isn’t being supported correctly
  • or isn’t delivering value

You own it.

You’ll work between the business, suppliers, and internal IT teams to make sure applications are well run, well governed, and well understood .

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Owning a portfolio of business-critical software applications
  • Acting as the single point of accountability for how those systems perform
  • Managing third-party vendors and SaaS providers
  • Overseeing application lifecycle: onboarding, change, optimisation, and retirement
  • Ensuring applications meet security, compliance, and operational standards
  • Working closely with stakeholders to understand requirements and priorities
  • Making informed decisions around risk, cost, and usability
  • Improving documentation, governance, and application clarity

This role is about control, judgement, and ownership , not chasing tickets or running projects.

The Profile That Fits

This role suits someone who:

  • Has previously owned applications or application estates
  • Is comfortable being accountable , not just involved
  • Can deal confidently with suppliers and senior stakeholders
  • Brings structure, clarity, and calm to complex environments
  • Wants to stay close to the systems, not manage large teams

Background could include:

  • Application Manager / Application Owner
  • Systems Manager
  • IT Service / Platform Manager
  • Senior Analyst with application ownership responsibility

Working Model (Clear and Non-Negotiable)

  • 4 days per week on-site
  • Friday remote working
  • On-site parking available

This role requires regular on-site presence due to stakeholder interaction and operational context. Flexibility is built in, but expectations are clear from day one.

Package

  • Salary £50,000 – £55,000
  • Stable, long-term role with real ownership
  • Low bureaucracy, high trust
  • Opportunity to genuinely run applications properly

Why This Role Stands Out

This is a role for someone who wants to own systems, make decisions, and be trusted — not hide behind process or titles.

If you enjoy running applications like a business , this role will suit you.
