Senior Backend Developer – Node.js / TypeScript / AWS

Flexible hybrid role – ideally London-based with 3 days in the office or able to travel to London 1 day/week

A high-growth tech scale-up is seeking a Senior Backend Developer to play a pivotal role in driving core feature development on their Node.js/TypeScript-based platform, hosted on AWS. This isn’t about maintaining legacy systems – it’s about building the future, fast.

The business is experiencing a period of transition and growth. With demand from enterprise clients , there's an immediate need for a technically strong, proactive developer who’s comfortable jumping into a complex system and helping to push it forward.

This is not a role for someone who just wants to follow tickets. They're looking for someone with a voice, a vision, and the experience to influence technical direction.

What you'll be doing:

• Leading the development of new features and core backend systems using Node.js , TypeScript , and AWS
• Supporting and guiding junior developers and contractors – writing tickets, reviewing code, unblocking issues
• Collaborating closely with the product team to shape features and deliver on client expectations
• Bringing structure and calm to a fast-moving roadmap – especially valuable if you’ve had experience in team leadership or technical mentoring
• Potential to grow into a team lead role over time (if that’s where your ambitions lie)

What they’re looking for:

• Substantial real-world experience in Node.js , TypeScript , and AWS backend development – ideally 10+ years in software engineering, but quality trumps years
• A strong problem-solver who thrives on building things properly, not just quickly
• Someone with the maturity and confidence to own their code and collaborate effectively across the business
• Experience with React is a plus, though this is very much a backend-heavy role
• Ideally, experience mentoring or leading developers – even in an informal capacity

Location & Flexibility:

• Hybrid role: Ideally based in London , with 3 days/week in the office
• Open to strong candidates outside London, provided they can commit to 1 day/week in the office
• The key is being close enough to build relationships in person , especially in the early days

Salary & Package:

• £80,000 depending on experience and leadership skills
• Plus benefits, and the opportunity to play a central role in the next stage of the company’s journey
