IT Controls & Audit Manager

This organisation is building a stronger, more resilient technology environment — and controls sit right at the heart of that. They’re looking for an experienced IT Controls and Audit Manager to shape, own and elevate their global IT controls framework, working closely with senior leaders and technical teams alike.

Role Overview:

  • Location: Newcastle (Hybrid – 3 days a week in the office)
  • Package: Competitive salary + benefits
  • Industry: Enterprise Technology / Corporate IT

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Owning the global IT Controls Framework — from design and rollout through to ongoing governance.
  • Defining and embedding an operating model that ensures controls are consistently applied and complied with.
  • Planning and leading control testing, overseeing execution, and reporting outcomes to stakeholders.
  • Acting as the central point of contact for IT audits and compliance reviews, ensuring responses are robust, timely and well-evidenced.
  • Driving remediation activity — making sure gaps are addressed, tracked and closed within agreed timescales.
  • Working closely with IT and business teams to ensure controls are practical, understood and embedded in day-to-day operations.
  • Developing dashboards and reporting to give control owners clear visibility of performance and risk.
  • Continuously improving the controls environment, identifying opportunities to streamline, automate and reduce audit effort.
  • Advising senior leaders on IT risk, control effectiveness and emerging issues.
  • Leading, coaching and setting direction for the IT Controls Governance team.
  • Delivering training and cultural initiatives to strengthen control awareness across the organisation.

Main Skills Needed:

  • Deep expertise in IT controls, governance and audit within complex environments.
  • Proven experience setting frameworks and driving outcomes in matrix organisations.
  • Strong background managing IT audits and translating technical detail into clear business insight.
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and manage competing priorities with confidence.
  • Excellent communication skills — written, verbal and presentation.
  • A hands-on, delivery-focused mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience leading, mentoring and developing teams.

What’s in It for You:

  • A senior, high-impact role with genuine ownership of the IT controls agenda.
  • Regular exposure to senior leadership and key decision-makers.
  • Hybrid working that balances flexibility with collaboration.
  • The chance to shape and mature a global controls framework, not just maintain it.
  • A role that values expertise, judgement and influence — not box-ticking.
