HEAD OF DATA, BI & ANALYTICS – Media and Events Industry - UK REMOTE | Up to £90k
HEAD OF DATA, BI & ANALYTICS – Leading Media Business - UK REMOTE | Up to £90k
We are hiring a Head of Data for a global, leading media and events business. This is a senior role reporting into the executive team, with full ownership of data engineering, analytics, and business intelligence across the organisation. The role is fully remote within the UK.
This position is best described as a business intelligence–led Head of Data role. You will work across the full data stack, but your primary value will come from analysing data, telling clear stories with it, and influencing executive decision-making.
The role
You will own data end to end and act as the bridge between raw data and commercial insight. Working closely with senior stakeholders, you will turn complex datasets into clear, actionable insight that shapes strategy, marketing performance, and the delivery of global events.
You will define the data and analytics strategy, set priorities and KPIs, and decide what should be improved, simplified, or extended within the current setup. You will also be responsible for defining the data roadmap and planning future data capability and hiring.
This is not a role where success is measured by dashboards alone. It is about insight, narrative, and impact at executive level.
Data & technology environment
The data platform is established, stable, and modern. You are not joining to fix something broken, but you will be expected to challenge how insight is delivered and evolve the platform where it makes sense. You will need skills across Data Engineering and Data Analytics but the focus will be on Business Intelligence and telling stories with data.
The current stack includes Python, SQL, GCP, GitHub and GitHub Actions, BigQuery, dbt, and BI tooling such as Looker. Data sources span CRM, marketing platforms, event systems, web analytics, and internal operational tools.
AI and future capability
AI is part of the remit. The business is already experimenting with OpenAI, RAG systems, and internal AI agents. You will define where AI adds genuine value to analytics, insight, and reporting, shape the AI roadmap, and assess readiness across data and tooling. As this capability matures, you will play a key role in recruiting and shaping a future AI Engineer hire.
Who this role suits
This role suits someone who has owned data end-to-end in a smaller or mid-sized business. You may currently hold a title such as Head of Data, Data Lead, BI Manager, Senior Analytics Engineer, or Lead Analytics Engineer.
You are comfortable spanning data engineering, modelling, analytics, business intelligence, and stakeholder management, but your strongest skill is interpreting data and communicating insight. You enjoy ownership, autonomy, and working in agile environments where you can roll your sleeves up.
Strong communication skills and executive presence are essential. You must be confident influencing senior leaders and explaining what the data means for a multi-national business. Experience in media, events, or audience-driven organisations is useful but not required.
What this role is not
This is not a heads-down data engineering role. It is not suited to someone who only thrives in large corporate teams with narrowly defined responsibilities. This is a broad, senior role in an SME environment where ownership and adaptability are critical.
Package
Salary of £80,000–£90,000 + benefits
Fully remote within the UK.
This is a rare opportunity to take full ownership of data, shape how insight is used at executive level, and build the next phase of data and AI capability in a global business.
