Student Data Reporting Manager

As the Data Reporting Manager, you will be playing a key role in innovative and high impact projects and will be responsible for leading on the reporting side of either the National Student Survey (NSS) or Post Graduate Taught Experience Survey (PTES) with responsibilities whose outputs are presented to University Council.

Collaborating with other analysts and end users across King’s, you will use a range of techniques and tools across a variety of data sources to provide engaging and insightful reports and data visualisations for a staff-wide audience.

You should be able to select the most appropriate procedure, technique or approach to conduct analysis and research and decide how to undertake the work independently, as well as analyse, interpret, collate and edit the results. You will be expected to work with a high level of autonomy, providing support for your team and colleagues through specialist advice, technical solutions and policy-led recommendations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support external reporting by leading on the NSS/PTES.
  • Enhance processes to support reliable student data reporting for NSS/PTES.
  • Produce insights and written summaries based on NSS/PTES qualitative analysis by our partners.
  • Respond to internal requests and enquiries, offering support and advice as a subject matter expert on the NSS/PTES as required.
  • Become a subject matter expert within your directorate for the university’s data warehouse, where historic NSS/PTES results are stored, and provide advice on its implications for internal business processes.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to develop and continuously improve internal processes supporting regulatory reporting to ensure high-quality reports.
  • Produce and maintain creative, user-friendly, and engaging outputs utilising a range of software, including the institution’s primary data visualisation tool, Power BI
  • Use initiative and creativity to solve complex problems for which an immediate solution is not clear and recognise when problems should be referred to others.
  • Use communication skills to produce meaningful caveats to accompany data provided to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop a network of relationships internally and externally for the purpose of improving the reporting and your own expertise on student data and course information.

Skills and Experience:

  • Able to use one or more business intelligence/analysis tools and/or associated languages for example Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx, SQL, SSRS, R, DAX, Python, M, Excel, VBA
  • Able to extract, transform and combine a range of different types of data from a range of sources
  • Able to translate complex technical requirements and analysis outcomes verbally, in writing and via presentations for non-specialist audiences
  • Able to model and visualise data to convey the outcome of analysis
  • Ability to establish and proactively build professional working relationships with external and internal stakeholders
  • Ability to manage own workload and work with minimal supervision
  • Sound knowledge of the sensitive nature of personal data, and the importance of compliance with Data Protection legislation
  • Knowledge of the Higher Education sector
  • Knowledge of student record management systems and the data held on them.
  • Experience working with a range of different stakeholders
