Nigel Frank is partnering with a London-based financial services organisation to recruit a Senior IT Engineer to join a small, tight-knit technology team supporting a secure, regulated environment.
This is a senior, hands-on role for an experienced engineer who enjoys ownership, responsibility, and variety. You’ll work closely with the Head of IT, taking the lead on infrastructure, cloud, security, and vendor-facing projects, while remaining involved in operational support where needed.
The Role
This position blends higher-level technical project work with senior operational responsibility . You’ll play a key role in shaping and maintaining the organisation’s IT platforms, security posture, and supplier relationships, acting as a trusted technical authority within a lean team.
The role requires regular presence in the London office and close collaboration with stakeholders across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Acting as a senior escalation point for complex technical and user issues
- Leading and delivering infrastructure and security projects across cloud and on-prem environments
- Owning Microsoft 365 administration, including identity, device management, messaging, and collaboration services
- Managing and improving endpoint deployment and configuration (Windows 11, Autopilot, Intune)
- Supporting and enhancing network infrastructure, including firewalls and network security controls
- Administering cloud and infrastructure platforms across Azure, AWS, and virtualised environments
- Supporting backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability systems
- Playing a key role in cyber security operations, controls, and risk management
- Supporting vendor due diligence, technical assurance, and third-party supplier reviews
- Working closely with the Head of IT on technical decisions, platform improvements, and future roadmap planning
- Balancing project delivery with hands-on support in a small-team environment
- Producing and maintaining clear technical documentation and operational standards
- Participating in out-of-hours support on a rota basis
Skills & Experience Required
- Strong Windows 11 desktop administration, rollout, and troubleshooting experience
- Strong Microsoft 365 administration experience (Exchange, Intune, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams)
- Solid networking fundamentals with hands-on firewall and security experience
- Proven experience across cloud and infrastructure platforms such as Azure, AWS, Windows Server, VMware, and backup solutions (e.g. Veeam)
- Good understanding of cyber security principles, including access control, endpoint security, and data protection
- Experience supporting or contributing to vendor due diligence and third-party technical assessments
- Comfortable working across both projects and BAU support within a lean, collaborative team
Desirable (Not Essential)
- Automation or scripting experience (PowerShell, Power Automate, Batch, etc.)
- Exposure to data protection, DLP, information governance, or compliance tooling
- Degree in a scientific or technical discipline
- Relevant Microsoft, infrastructure, networking, or security certifications
- Experience working in financial services or another regulated environment
