We are seeking a highly skilled and motivatedSenior QA Tester to join our dynamic Digital and Data team at Public Health Wales. You'll play a key role in developing and delivering high-quality digital solutions that support national health services. Working closely with senior technical leads and your team, you'll contribute to designing, building, and maintaining systems that improve digital health services in Wales. It's a great time to join us as we're adopting new technologies and growing our technical professions.

The role sits within the Research, Data and Digital Directorate and contributes directly to the organisation's strategic goals. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams, senior leaders, and external partners to help shape effective, future-ready services across the health system.

Main duties of the job

  • Contribute to planning and executing comprehensive testing strategies to ensure scalable, secure, and interoperable systems meet quality standards.
  • Provide technical expertise in quality assurance, test automation and mentor/support colleagues in applying best testing practices.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure testing aligns with technical, clinical, and business requirements.
  • Apply agile and user-centred testing practices and collaboration with diverse teams.
  • Ensure testing processes comply with data protection, cyber security, and national digital infrastructure standards.
  • Support defect management, assist with troubleshooting quality issues, and help ensure systems perform reliably through rigorous testing.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential
  • Bachelor of Science degree, or equivalent experience delivering similar outcomes in an associated professional field.
  • Applied knowledge of software testing in Agile teams.
Desirable
  • Professional certification e.g. Professional Scrum Developer, Microsoft certified, Agile/Scrum testing certification, ISTQB Certified Tester - Foundation Level (CTFL)
  • Knowledge and experience of APIs, RESTful services and Microservice Architectures.

Experience

Essential
  • Experience in designing and maintaining automated test frameworks using C#, Selenium and Playwright.
  • Experience in designing advanced API test suites in Postman and test strategies when using standards such as FHIR.
  • Experience of data validation strategies and collaborating with data engineers to ensure data integrity across systems.
  • Familiar with applying cloud-native testing practices and contributing to test strategies for microservices and containerised environments (e.g., Azure, Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience in developing and maintaining QA documentation standards, reviewing and approving test documentation across teams and supporting audits and compliance activities.
  • Familiarity in building and enforcing unit test frameworks, refactored tests and ensuring coverage using dynamic analysis tools.
  • Experience in collaborating with developers on testability, including mocking Entity Framework and testing Razor/Blazor components.
Desirable
  • Experience in designing, implementing and maintaining automated test pipelines.
  • Experience in using cloud-native testing tools to execute scalable, distributed tests and has advised on tool selection and integration into cloud-based QA strategies.
  • Knowledge of applying clinical safety standards in QA processes, collaborated with clinical safety officers and contributed to DPIAs and safety case documentation.
  • Experience assessing testing efforts, ensuring compliance with WCAG standards and provided guidance on inclusive design and testing practices.

Skills and Attributes

Essential
  • Capable of leading QA involvement in Agile ceremonies, aligning sprint goals with tools like Azure DevOps Boards, Git and YAML pipelines.
  • Ability to influence a team to work within the BDD framework.
  • Ability to lead in defect triage meetings and drive root cause analysis.
  • Skilled in writing Acceptance & End-To-End Tests in Playwright and Selenium.
  • Knowledge of JavaScript Testing Frameworks.
  • Skilled in Database Testing Frameworks.
  • Skilled in System, Integration and API Testing.
Desirable
  • Skilled in managing test dependencies.
  • Skilled in running tests within containerised environments using Docker.
