NHS Band 6 Project Support Manager
We're looking for an experienced Project Support Manager to bring clarity, control, and confidence to complex, high-impact programmes. This is a senior PMO / PMIO Manager role, working alongside Project and Programme Managers to ensure delivery is well-governed, well-planned, and clearly understood at every level.

What you'll do
Lead & Enable
- Provide direction and support to project staff, driving strong individual and team performance
- Allocate work effectively and ensure delivery stays within agreed scope and change controls
- Support team development and collaborate across the wider programme community
Plan & Control
- Shape and refine business cases, ensuring continued justification for change
- Build and maintain robust project plans using sound analysis and decision-making
- Coordinate delivery against agreed scope, timelines, resources, and quality standards
- Define and schedule organisation-wide resources to meet project demands
Governance, Insight & Improvement
- Maintain effective governance, controls, and assurance across projects
- Identify, manage, and escalate risks, issues, and dependencies, developing clear mitigations
- Track performance and KPIs, providing insight to inform senior decision-making
- Analyse complex information and advise senior stakeholders on project direction
- Capture lessons learned and recommend improvements to policy, process, or practice
- Research best practice across NHS Wales and the wider UK to validate approaches
Communication & Stakeholders
- Communicate complex information clearly, adapting style for diverse audiences
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders
- Support Project Board meetings with clear updates and briefing materials
- Act as the project's communication lead and advocate
Information, Reporting & Finance
- Maintain accurate project documentation, logs, and controls within programme systems
- Produce change controls, configuration management materials, and milestone tracking
- Deliver high-quality highlight, end-stage, and lessons-learned reports
- Support budget planning, monitoring, spend tracking, and procurement activities
Essential experience
- Demonstrable experience working in a senior PMO / PMIO / Project Support Manager supporting large-scale, multi-stakeholder NHS Technology programmes
- Strong working knowledge of project governance, controls, assurance frameworks, and reporting within a structured delivery environment
- Proven ability to work effectively with senior stakeholders, Project Boards, and programme leadership, providing clear, timely, and accurate information
- Excellent analytical, reporting, and communication skills, with the ability to interpret complex information and present it clearly to a range of audiences
- Ability to lead, coordinate, and influence project teams and stakeholders without direct line management responsibility
