Back-up Engineer

Job Description – IT Infrastructure Engineer (Backup Operations)

Location: Sheffield (Hybrid)

Rate: £350 per day (Inside IR35)

Duration: 6 months initially

Overview

We are seeking an experienced IT Infrastructure Engineering Professional to join a large enterprise Backup Operations team, supporting internal IT and Cloud Services. The role involves maintaining and operating a large-scale backup environment using Dell EMC Networker, ensuring service continuity, and contributing to the wider technology landscape.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide operational support for enterprise backup and recovery systems.
• Ensure all backup operational procedures are maintained, updated, and followed.
• Perform root cause analysis and troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues.
• Participate in technical peer reviews and ensure deliverables align with quality and security standards.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of backup components within wider infrastructure projects.
• Collaborate with internal teams and partners to maintain system reliability and improve efficiency.
• Participate in an on-call rota and provide out-of-hours support as required.

Skills & Experience Required

• Strong knowledge of backup and recovery principles.
• In-depth experience with EMC Networker.
• Working knowledge of Data Domain or tape-based backup systems.
• Practical experience with Linux and Windows Server operating systems.
• Experience in problem-solving, performance analysis, and root cause investigation.
• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and deliver in demanding environments.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.

Desirable

• Experience working in large-scale enterprise environments.
• Understanding of cloud-based backup integrations and modern infrastructure platforms.
• Awareness of enterprise-level standards and security practices.
